The Host by Stephenie Meyer

Aliens.

I've always had a point in my life wherein I believe some things that are out of the norm. Sometimes, I think of how life outside our planet can be or if "they" really do exist. I know, you'll say I've watched way too many shows in the boob tube for me to think of this, but would you believe if I say that I haven't watched a single episode of X-Files in my entire life? Haha. Yeah, its true. The reason? I simply don't like the soundtrack. It was just way too creepy for me.

Anyway, I had just finished reading another work of Stephenie Meyer which is THE HOST.

It was simply about aliens invading our planet by having them inserted into our body, thus, making the humans as a host to these foreign "Souls". Once inserted, the souls would then recover all the memories of the body and carry on with living the rest of their time as a new person on earth. The conflict here? Resistance. The body of Melanie Stryder  was used by an alien called Wanderer. Unfortunately, the mind of Mel was just very strong for her to be completely erased after the insertion. So now, two minds, one body. A story of well, as one would expect, a love triangle, struggle, adventure, sci - fi and a bit hope.

When I started reading the book, I was so bored with how everything was so detailed that I lost interest in continuing to finish it. It gave me time to finally find the peak of the story and enjoy it. I like how she was so creative in thinking of how things go outside our little green planet. It was so different from Twilight that there was no trace of resemblance if compared.  I also liked how everything was so easy for the aliens because they have all the resources to stay alive. How the so called Spiders have the answers to everything. How Science have been so advanced that no sickness is not cured. And how we can only have one soul to love in the entire universe.

I never guessed how the ending would go and I was happy to find out how it went. I was satisfied of the story that it gave me much thought of how would things go on earth if that would really happen. Would we fight back? Would they win? Would we really be as renegade as how humans are in the story? If so, I'd like to be a SOUL. Someone who can have a decision to have a new life. A life that is worth living.

Making Friends, Making Gifts

Having so many friends can be so frustrating during Christmas. Being on a tight budget, I went to the mall last Saturday to look for gifts for my office family. Well, after hunting for more than 2 hours, I decided to not buy anything but squeeze out some of my arty crafty juice.

Here is what happened. My friends happen to LOVE their faces. Haha!

I needed these to make my ENOZ CHRISTMAS PRESENTS:

Some strings to glue at the back.

Christmas wrapper and a roll of pretty blue ribbon .

An illustration board divided into small squares.
Some accents to add the design.
Of course, print out the pictures!
Wrap them and pray that they will like it!
One of the finished products. Yey!!!
Merry Christmas and A Happy New Year!!!

Celine Shoes

I love shoes. I love looking at them. I love trying them on and I love receiving them as a gift.
I got a nice one last Monday. My madir and sister went shoe shopping and since Celine has a sale that time, they decided to buy there. They had a HALF THE PRICE ON THE SECOND PAIR sale.
My sister brought a black one for her and a cream colored sandals for me. Mine was supposed to be the half priced pair but since both has the same price and mine was punched in first, it was the one with the original price of 799.95 and the other one became 399.95.
Anyway, when they went home, we discovered that mine was really small for me. They brought a size 5 pair because both of them thought that me and my mom have the same size! So, naturally, me and my sister went back to the boutique last Wednesday to have it returned / exchanged or whatever that they can do with it. The girl stationed in the cashier said that there was no other size so I can pick a new one with either the same price or a higher one wherein I would pay for the extra if ever. Anyway, I had my eyes set on a pretty wedge shoe but unfortunately, they didn't have a size 6 for it. So I looked for another pair and found these pretty semi gladiator wedge! SO CUTE!!!
These were regularly priced at 1299.95 pesos and since they had a NEW SALE at 50 % off at almost all the shoes, it is now at 649. 95. And the good part was that they have it on my size, so after trying it on, I immediately went to the cashier to have it boxed.

This is where it now starts. The cashier actually didn't KNOW what to do with the returned puchases because of the reason that the price was like this and that and they had a different sale than what they had that day. OMG! It was freakishingly MAD! Like, she was talking on the phone with someone who was SUPPOSED to know what to do. Anyway, it took her like 10 minutes on the phone to decide what to do with my case.

NOW, this is what she said.

SINCE it was priced at 799.95 and the shoe that I will exchange it for is at 649.95, naturally, I have a change amounting to 150 right? So they said that I had to purchase something that would compensate the change. I asked if they had anything amounting to 150 and whapak!!! they said NO. So they suggested that I buy another pair, or buy a plastic slipper which is like for 200 or buy a shirt. I asked if would it be okay to just get the shoe, and they can have the 150 change? They said NO again. I really had to buy something. OMG. I still had to go to work that day so I said that I'll just come back. I left the shoes but got the receipt. ARGH. It was so frustrating. What a waste of time. While walking out of the mall, I told my sister to just come back there later with mama and buy the shoes that they first brought since everything was now on half the price, I thought that they are just going to add 250 to get it. Later that afternoon, my sister came back to buy the shoes back but she was told that she can't purchase something that was returned. ARGH. Another waste of time.
She went back with my mother sometime before dinner and they were told that they really had to buy something. The same CASHIER was there and she told them something that was different from what she told me earlier. Mama looked for something that she wanted to buy, thinking that the pair that she picked was also on sale, she showed it to the girl to purchase it. And then... tadaaaaaaaa!!! The shoe was not on sale. She had to add like more that 800 plus pesos to get it. OMG. This was like the WORST CUSTOMER SERVICE ASSISTANCE that I have ever seen! My madir was really a bungangera and since she was in a hurry because she was going to attend the Simbang Gabi, she just told them that they can do what they want to the 150 and just let her leave with my shoes.

Do you know what happened? They let her go. What AN IDIOT. That was the same thing that I was telling HER earlier that morning! If she had just managed the issue a bit smarter, it wouldn't have turned into something like this.

I was happy with the shoes, but TOTALLY NOT HAPPY with the SERVICE!   I hope that they would have enough information to help customers like me. They should be ready for the things that could happen in their store.

Even though this happened? The shoes still looked good on me! HAHA!

Christmas Gift

I'm starting to recall my artistic self. I know I don't have the proper training but I'm sure I can find my way through searching self - help instructions from the internet.

Last December 11, 2010 , our company celebrated its yearly Christmas Party. It was an amazing day for us. Everybody enjoyed all the presentations and the awarding. I know most of the guys enjoyed the free food... but sad to say, I didn't became a fan of Korean Food. The taste was just too bland for me. Anyway, I was too caught up on taking pictures, eating , watching the presentation, laughing and talking how much one's dress was really pretty... I almost forgot about the gifts!!!

Thina gave me the IDEA what to ask for my Christmas wish list. She and I were talking for the past few weeks that I would want to try painting again. |One day, our TC gave us a paper where we were supposed to write what kind of gift that we wanted including a secret code name. I was thinking what I would want, when Thina suggested to why not ask for the acrylic paints that I've been talking about so much. It was the best idea for a Christmas gift for me. And when the time came to receive the gift, I was so incredibly so happy to take it.

I am so getting so busy once I get a good canvas to make use of this thingies!!! Love yah Teacher JOY!

I LOVE CHRISTMAS GIFTS!

Scramble Ramble

I had a day out with my sister and we brought some scramble. It's a pink crushed ice mixed with some chocolate syrup and milk. I remember that I used to get this for free when I was like, 5 or 6 years old because my grandmother used to sell this sa kanto. Hehehe.. This one just tastes like the ones that I eat before.. and mind you.. it can get addicting especially if you add more milk on it!!!

So indulge! Enjoy!

so yummy!!!

Five lessons to make you think about the way we treat people.

This one is a forwarded email from my friend.
I just wanted to share this to all the people who would spare a couple of minutes to read this.
I learned how to appreciate all the little things that people do, that they can do, that you can do and that I can do.

Hope you would also. Just remember that for everything that you do, expect nothing in return. All good deeds are rewarded in God's time.

1 - First Important Lesson - Cleaning Lady.

During my second month of college, our professor
gave us a pop quiz. I was a conscientious student
and had breezed through the questions until I read
the last one:
"What is the first name of the woman who cleans the school?"
Surely this was some kind of joke. I had seen the
cleaning woman several times. She was tall,
dark-haired and in her 50s, but how would I know her name?

I handed in my paper, leaving the last
question
blank. Just before class ended, one student asked if
the last question would count toward our quiz grade.
"Absolutely," said the professor. "In your careers,
you will meet many people. All are significant. They
deserve your attention and care, even if all you do
is smile and say "hello."
I've never forgotten that lesson. I also learned her
name was Dorothy.

2. - Second Important Lesson - Pickup in the Rain

One night, at 11:30 p.m., an elderly African-American
woman was standing on the side of an Alabama highway
trying to endure a lashing rainstorm. Her car had
broken down and she desperately needed a ride.
Soaking wet, she decided to flag down the next car.
A young white man stopped to help her, generally
unheard of in those conflict-filled 60s.. The man
took her to safety, helped her get assistance and
put her into a taxicab.
She seemed to be in a big hurry, but wrote down his
address and thanked him. Seven days went by and a
knock came on the man's door. To his surprise, a
giant console color TV was delivered to his home. A
special note was attached..

It read:
"Thank you so much for assisting me on the highway
the other night. The rain drenched not only my
clothes, but also my spirits. Then you came along.
Because of you, I was able to make it to my dying
husband's bedside just before he passed away... God
bless you for helping me and unselfishly serving
others."

Sincerely, Mrs. Nat King Cole.

3 - Third Important Lesson - Always remember those who serve.

In the days when an ice cream sundae cost much less,
a 10-year-old boy entered a hotel coffee shop and
sat at a table. A waitress put a glass of water in front of him.
"How much is an ice cream sundae?" he asked.
"Fifty cents," replied the waitress.
The little boy pulled is hand out of his pocket and
studied the coins in it.

"Well, how much is a plain dish of ice cream?" he inquired.

By now more people were waiting for a table and the
waitress was growing impatient.
"Thirty-five cents," she brusquely replied.
The little boy again counted his coins.

"I'll have the plain ice cream," he said.
The waitress brought the ice cream, put the bill on
the table and walked away. The boy finished the ice
cream, paid the cashier and left. When the waitress
came back, she began to cry as she wiped down the
table. There, placed neatly beside the empty dish,
were two nickels and five pennies..

You see, he couldn't have the sundae, because he had
to have enough left to leave her a tip.

4 - Fourth Important Lesson. - The obstacle in Our Path.

In ancient times, a King had a boulder placed on a
roadway. Then he hid himself and watched to see if
anyone would remove the huge rock. Some of the
king's wealthiest merchants and courtiers came by
and simply walked around it. Many loudly blamed the
King for not keeping the roads clear, but none did
anything about getting the stone out of the way.

Then a peasant came along carrying a load of
vegetables. Upon approaching the boulder, the
peasant laid down his burden and tried to move the
stone to the side of the road. After much pushing
and straining, he finally succeeded. After the
peasant picked up his load of vegetables, he noticed
a purse lying in the road where the boulder had
been. The purse contained many gold coins and a note
from the King indicating that the gold was for the
person who removed the boulder from the roadway. The
peasant learned what many of us never understand!

Every obstacle presents an opportunity to improve our condition.

5 - Fifth Important Lesson - Giving When it Counts...

Many years ago, when I worked as a volunteer at a
hospital, I got to know a little girl named Liz who
was suffering from a rare & serious disease. Her only
chance of recovery appeared to be a blood
transfusion from her 5-year old brother, who had
miraculously survived the same disease and had
developed the antibodies needed to combat the
illness. The doctor explained the situation to her
little brother, and asked the little boy if he would
be willing to give his blood to his sister.

I saw him hesitate for only a moment before taking a
deep breath and saying, "Yes I'll do it if it will save her."
As the transfusion progressed, he lay in bed next to his
sister and smiled, as we all did, seeing the color returning
to her cheek. Then his face grew pale and his smile faded.

He looked up at the doctor and asked with a
trembling voice, "Will I start to die right away".

Being young, the little boy had misunderstood the
doctor; he thought he was going to have to give his
sister all of his blood in order to save her.

Now you have 2 choices.
1. Delete this email, or
2. Forward it to people you care about including me.
I hope that you will choose No. 2
"Work like you don't need the money, love like you've never been hurt, and dance like you do when nobody's watching."

Blush Me Up!

Rae had some good finds this week. She showed me some blushers she brought at Watson's. It was the same mousse that I had been using ever since I saw it. I never liked powder blushers because I never knew how to put them on.. They would simply make me look like I am way too blushed or it would either be too light on the left and too much on the right or the other way around.

Anyway, thank goodness I found these mousse (I also brought it at watson's) and they were at a reasonable price so I learned to patronize the product. It was regularly priced at 169 pesos but Rae was most fortunate to buy it at a  very good price of 89 pesos! A whooping almost half the regular one! Good job Rae!

The pink one was Rae's and the mocha one is mine. The mocha looks more natural on me and using a mousse is so easy to apply. As you can see, it is almost gone!

Actually, I rarely used this for the past week because my I saw my sister's lip and cheek tint. It has a tube container and looks very red. But when I tried it on, it looks so good because it gave me a very natural blush! Unfortunately, it doesn't stay so long as much as the mousse does. I had to reapply every once in a while. I saw the same product with Cara too but it was placed on a spritzer. My sister told me that it was more expensive than the one that she has.
This one is my sister's Ever Bilena tint. Easy to apply but it also stays on your fingers. ^.^

Anyway, I had to use blushers because I have a naturally pale skin. Its not that I'm anemic or something, but its just like that. And a blusher can make a difference on your face. Makes you more blooming and happy.
I am sooo loving it!

SPECIMEN NO.0001

This would be my first attempt to show not only my UKAY finds but my friends' as well.

The first specimen would be from :
 Park Hee Jin (codename)

Off White Vintage Jacket
from : Starmall ukay ukay store 2nd floor
Price: 100 pesos

This jacket is very cute. It's fabric is like satin with an off white color that looks very vintage. It can be worn even during the not-so-cold or the not-so-hot season.
People had always teased her as a Michael Jackson imitation when she wears this but I still think that its cool!

Thanks C for being my first pic! lavyah!

Childhood memories

There are things that just brings back time right? Do you remember the shampoo GEE YOUR HAIR SMELLS TERRIFIC? The smell of it for me triggers some memories in my brain. For today, it was Rebisco Choco Crunchies. MK and the other teachers went to 7 eleven today and my sweet tooth was just craving for something to munch on. So, I asked MK (she's so nice to say YES!) to buy the choco biscuits for me.

I enjoyed these when I was younger. I used to always ask mama to buy me the cookies or the one with the mallows. Of course, they are exceptionally delicious! I remember that I always had to hide it because my brother always eat everything and leave nothing for me.
Munching on these makes me appreciate my childhood. The careless playing at the park. With no care in the world who can see me with mud in the face or a messy hair day. And most importantly, the times when the only concern that you have is : What game will we be playing tomorrow at the streets.

Memories.Childhood.Priceless treasures.

UKAY UKAY is SO OKAY!

Ukay ukay is a HEAVEN for fashionistas (still learning how to be one though!).

The first time that I went to an UKAY shop was 3 years ago when I was looking for a fur / thick jacket because I was going to Sydney. Before I went here, I first went to department stores and greenhills to buy a  brand new one but OMG! It was very expensive! I found a khaki colored jacket that I really liked but it was priced at a whooooping 3, 500 pesos! And at that tag? Definitely NO!

It was just a coincidence that I fumbled upon an UKAY UKAY store in Quiapo. I was going to buy DVD's and going to church but when I passed by the open spaced store, I can't help it but check it out.

Finally, after browsing for a couple of minutes, I found a very cute purple jacket. I'm sure that it is sized for children coz it fits me perfectly! (I have a really petite form so its very tricky to find clothes that fit me.) Anyway, it was really nice coz it has a zipper wherein you can remove and reattach back the fur lavander hood. Unfortunately, I can't take a picture because I had to leave it in Sydney along with 2 of my heavy jackets to free some space for the wine and chocolates that I was bringing home. Anyway, I brought it only for 150 pesos! Super cheap!!!

So that event started my love for going to Ukay shops and find some fashion worthy clothes. I've never been to a lot of shops. I even didn't visit the one in Baguio when I went there. (I was with BF and he won't be able to stand the smell there! hehe) Anyway, there are a lot of them here in Manila as well as in Cavite.

I decided to blog about this coz I got inspired by the website that I found: http://ukayukayescapades.i.ph/. I like doing reviews and this will be a good start for that.
We'll see what kind of job can I do for this and I'm gonna call it :
THE PROJECT ELJ.

Basic Principles

Basic Principles:

I know, I'm a little bit late on the news but two nights ago, I watched Will Smith's movie entitled Hitch. Actually, I think I knew it when this movie was first released in the big screen, but I guess it just didn't caught my interest. If only I had known about the plot of the story, I would've watched it. From the beginning until the end, I didn't want to blink my eye or let a good line pass out of my earshot. The reason? I liked it and enjoyed it just because I think that everything that Will Smith makes sense.
They say finding true love (yeah, corny!) is as difficult as searching for a needle in a haystack. Would you agree? As a matter of fact, I do believe in that phrase. I am no relationship expert nor a psychologist but I have seen too much heartbreaks and happily ever after couples to say that it falling in love is quite easier said than done.

Personals will show that when it comes to finding a special relationship, you can indeed find a needle in a haystack with the right help.
-Yahoo! Personals Declares Valentine's Day ``National Call in Single Day''.

Yep! It said "RIGHT HELP", but do we really need one? Is there really such thing as BASIC PRINCIPLES to follow in order for us to find our soulmate?  Or do we need to hire or ask someone else to help us GET it?
I still think that before getting into a relationship, you need to learn some of these things:

1. BE YOURSELF - Posing as a different person to attract your subject of affection may be very common these days, but it definitely isn't going to last long. Wouldn't it be nice for them to start loving you as you are?

2. TRUST - Confidence in yourself is essential. It is quite difficult to trust someone who doesn't even believe in himself. Learn how to trust yourself and everything else follows.

3. PATIENCE - All things come in the right time and in the right place. Learn how to wait and don't rush things.

4. FRIENDSHIP - Building friendship is as hard as getting someone to trust you. But a lot of couples that lasts a lifetime has treated each other as each other's bestfriend.

5. FIDELITY - Of course, this is very important. Learning how to be faithful is difficult but you only have one heart to beat for one person..

6. COMMUNICATE - Learn not only how to speak up but to listen as well. A relationship is a two way path. Learn how to see also, as they say, actions speak louder than words.

7. EMPHATIZE - Knowing and learning how to be in someone else's shoes is showing that you can  value their interests and thoughts.

Remember that not all relationships are perfect, and its is very random and difficult that we find our ideal person. Although I think that before finding someone to love, learn how to love yourself first.Love unconditionally. Expect nothing in return and never stop loving even if you have been hurt before.

There is always the risk of getting hurt, so remember to fully love and trust in your constant decision to love rather than fear. And most importantly, do not force love. It will come in good time—perhaps not with the person you initially want, but love definitely will come if you are willing to share it with someone.

The Sound Of Coffee

During stressful days and strenious hours of work, it would be nice to unwind and take a break for a while right? For me, the best way to do this is to hang out at a coffee shop with your most favorite person in the world.

It may be Starbucks or Seattle's Best, could be Gloria Jeans or just an ordinary Java Cafe. As long as it brews and serves the sweet tasting coffee that I love, I'm there. The smell is just hypnotizing and unbelievably amazing that spending 150 a cup is so totally worth it. Also, one of the things that I also like when I spend my wee hours of the night at a cafe is  the sounds. Who wouldn't enjoy listening to Bossa Nova? Even though I admit that I'm so not gifted in that department...I still like listening to it. The soft voice and melody sways me like a how a zephyr would. It brings me to a height that I am so relaxed and couldn't care less about the problems of the world.

Aside from this, it gives us a bit of chance to have the peacefulness to share a moment with someone. Could be a friend, a best friend, a coworker or with the person who completes your world. Sharing moments like these are priceless. All the stories shared and recalled are always treasured. All the laughters and tears between each conversation is what we all need to realize how our lives are worth living for. These are the priceless moments we should all experience even once in our lives.

So go ahead, sit down and sip on your favorite caffeine. Enjoy life, enjoy love.

Missing Overseas

Its has been officially 7 months 1 day and 4 hours since I left the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. It was the winter season when I left the land of gold and oil.

My experience there was somehow something that is quite difficult to tell. The reason behind that is because I can't tell if I was happy there or was I sad but I can definitely say that I didn't feel the homesickness that most people experience. Perhaps because even if me and my family are quite close, I've always felt so distant to them. Anyway, I'm not here to talk about my family, but about the heat and cold of the desert.

My first day there was very eerie. To think that I went there alone and I don't have no idea how to speak their language, I had to face the reality that I had to be strong enough to protect myself whatever happens. When we arrived at the airport, women were seperated from the men and our passports were collected. I can't forget the tall man with the big nose and huge eyes who shouted "YALLAH" at us urging the women to follow him to a big room.

It was a room filled with women waiting for their employers to come and fetch them. Some of them were waiting for almost 24 hours but luckily, I only waited for 3 hours. I met again the man who interviewed me back in Manila and his wife who was wearing a full outfit of a woman Arab called Abaya. It was very disturbing as we rode the car because I can't understand a single thing that was coming out of their mouth!  We arrived at their house and I met the sister of the wife and their nieces and nephews. They were little noisy querubins just like the very image of the statues that we see in our churches. I was really afraid because I never did expect that I was going to stay at a house. I was expecting to go to a dormitory or something. I was thinking that maybe they were going to make me a caregiver... omg.. I didn't slept well that night and woke very early but I didn't get up until the daughters of my employers woke up too (we all slept in one big room). Finally, we rode again and I was able to see the real arabian desert. It was freaking hot!!! At around 38 - 40 degrees, my skin was already burning but I wasn't sweating. We arrived at another house and after 30 minutes later, Baba (my employer) motioned me to follow him outside and follow the Indian looking guy who was carrying my luggage into a 3 floor building next to the house. We reached the 3rd floor and knocked at the last door of the floor. When the door opened, that was when I was finally able to breathe again.

I met Maha, my first Filipino Muslim close friend. She was really nice and told me all the things that I needed to know about our work as a dental assistant. Thank goodness all our dentists were Filipino too! Aside from us, there was an Egyptian and Indian nurse too. This was the time that I started my life at the desert.

After 4 months of staying there, I finally learned enough Arabic words (thanks to Maha , our Indian janitor and my doctors) to have a conversation. I always practiced with Yahyah, our Arab receptionist who looked perfectly like the guy Laurant in twilight. He was very patient with me and in return, I had to teach him english also. The best thing about being there is I was able to learn the language and I love how cheap the food is! I miss going out on Wednesday - Panda Day!!! It was because they always have a weekly sale and I'm always waiting for the Nutella and Cheetos sale! The price of the large bag of Cheetos there is only 5 riyal which is 50 pesos only but if I will buy one at SM or at mercury drug, it would be a whooping 150 pesos! Haaayyy buhay!!! I also missed singing Ya baba asnani wawa to children patients who always cried before having their teeth cleaned or extracted. I learned a lot about their culture, their faith and their food.

It was fun till it lasted. I miss but I'm glad I was already out of that place. The only regret that I have is that I wasn't able to bring home some sands from the desert... I'll be making sure Maha brings me some when she comes home on November. =)

Living Happily

They say that contentment in life is a very difficult thing to achieve. I believe otherwise.

The richest people in the world may have all the money in the world but the question is, are they happy? Money can buy you a lot of things, sometimes money can buy you happiness but, can you say that that kind can last for a lifetime? According to one article that I've read (http://finance.yahoo.com/banking-budgeting/article/110550/tips-from-frugal-billionaires?mod=bb-budgeting), the richest people in the world tries to live as simple as they could. And I think that it is the best way to make your way to happy land. Spending so much on things only makes you more hungry to replace the things that you currently have when a brand new one comes along. Contentement is very simple. As long as you have the people you care about are around you, enough savings to provide your everyday needs and enough faith that all the things that you need are within reach, that is when you will say that you are happy and contented with your life.

I say keep it simple, that would make you happy.
